I’m Marrow
Marrow is a dancer of some two decades’ experience, based in the Tampa Bay area. Their unique style fuses raqs sharqi (what many envision when they hear “belly dance”) with movements from contemporary and modern stylings. They first discovered belly dance as a teen in north Florida, where study of the dance form served as a gateway to exploring dances of the world and an antidote to bigotry present in their larger community.
Dance remained a focus throughout Marrow’s undergraduate and graduate studies, where they added formal training on contemporary dance. While dance was not the focus of their degrees, Marrow never stopped studying or performing even after graduation and while pursuing nonprofit work. It was during this time that they began teaching fusion belly dance and joined the professional dance troupes ShimmyBOOM and Disco Iskandar.
Now, Marrow devotes their life’s work to dance: studying, teaching, performing. Their favorite aspect of dancing is the expressiveness contained within the art; that subtle magic which allows for an alchemy of all facets of one’s being. They are adamant in the belief that dance is for everyone and has incredible potential to bring people closer to each other and their own selves in a powerful and healing way. And best of all? There is absolutely no end to the knowledge one can unlock through dance, whether that be new things learned about oneself or the world we all share.
Stay curious, friends!
